Background
I was born in Brooklyn to Colombian immigrants and raised in the middle of Texas. I realize this makes me a cultural mutt and I wouldn’t have it any other way. My name does not rhyme with fuzz or booze. It’s pronounced “loose,” like a loose tooth—or, perhaps more fittingly, a loose screw.

Education
I graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a Bachelors in Literary Studies in 1998. A few years later, I went back to get a Masters in Aesthetic Studies. A few years after that, I got my Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Texas at El Paso. I’ll probably go back for more someday—maybe I’ll try psychology next.
Today
They say those who can, do and those who can’t, teach, but I have been doing and teaching since 1998. I currently live in Dallas and spend most of my free time reading, sweating, overanalyzing stuff, and fantasizing about where I’m gonna live when I finally grow up. I seem to be heading westward.
I’m a fan of beautiful prose, elegant journals, Chips Ahoy cookies, and cats.
